Day by day officials are faced with a new challenge, having to communicate with people that speak Spanish and know little or no English. Time is crucial and frequently Law Enforcement officers, fire-fighters, paramedics and 911 dispatchers spend valuable time trying to locate a bilingual person who can communicate with victims of any given emergency situation.
It is for this said reason , that the
ALS ,in an attempt to increase the number of Bilingual Public Safety officers,has designed The
Spanish for Public Safety program to help public safety officers and employees better communicate with the Hispanic community and understand the cultural differences. You will learn the specific language you need to respond in a safe and effective way, to conduct traffic stops, take an offence report, respond to domestic situations, be able to comfort a crime victim, assist Spanish-speaking persons in fire or medical emergency situations etc. Visits to local Police or Fire Departments can be arranged upon request.
