Ciudad de México: Xochimilco and Museo Dolores Olmedo & Museo Frida Kahlo
Xochimilco is
a beautiful Ecological Park, often referred to as the Venice of Mexico due to its beautiful canals. You can tour the canals on a trajinera (a wooden boat adorned with painted flowers)
The Dolores Olmedo Museum is located in Xochimilco, that juncture of history and culture on the outskirts of Mexico City adjacent to the famous Floating Gardens. This stunning, and rather nostalgic setting, serves as the background for the Dolores Olmedo Patiño collections, donated by their one-time owner to the people of Mexico. A trust in her name is responsible for the conservation and exhibition of the works of art
Museo Frida Kahlo Hidden behind high cobalt blue walls, the museo is where the surrealist artist Frida Kahlo was born, grew up and later lived with her muralist husband Diego Rivera, from 1941 until her death at age 47 in 1954. Fascinating not only for the collections and personal effects of the two great artists it contains, the museum also affords a window on the lifestyles of affluent Mexican bohemians during the first half of this century.
